This afternoon, a guy named King popped into the CCF office to offer us some free passes to the pre-screening of Fast Food Nation.

A few of us decided to go see it. We knew it was a story that dealt with the fast food industry and we thought that maybe after tonight we’d never want to eat McDonald’s food again. So before going to see it, we went to get McDonald’s as a sort of condemned man’s last meal.

The movie was troubling, because, even though it’s a fictional story, it is portraying a reality. It focuses a lot on meat processing and mistreated workers in the fast food manufacturing industry. The movie paints a frightening picture, and it’s definitely thought-provoking. But my main reaction to watching this film is a feeling of powerlessness. What can we do to make a change?

At the end of movie, this site appeared on the screen. Take a look, learn a little more, and find out what we can do.

Even Ronald wants to dump fast food in the trash and run!

A baptism at the Day’s Inn November 8, 2006

Jonathan Bai was baptized on Sunday, November 5, 2006. It’s another date he can remember. The hotel room where his church and friends had gathered was crammed with people. The couches were full, the endtables served as chairs, and there were even a few people who sat on the air conditioner.

Sitting Indian-style on the floor, I sang along with the others as a guitarist played a few of Jonathan’s favourite worship songs. Then a few people spoke up about Jonathan, telling stories of how they met him and what they admire about how he is following Christ. Jonathan then told the story of how he became a Christian. It was great to hear that, he is so passionate about it. He remembers every detail about conversations he had at the time. Afterwards, we all crowded around the hotel bathroom, where Jonathan was baptized in the bathtub. Great!

Then we all took photos and chatted and went to eat crepes near Concordia. It was a fun night and it was inspiring to hear how enthusiastic Jon is about learning to know God and being transformed by him.

It’s my mom’s birthday today. After work today, we went to eat and then she opened presents and ate cake and we played a game together. My dad made the cake, with a little icing heart on it. Isn’t she cute in her new blue sweater?

What an odd word earrings is! Maybe it used to be spelled “ear rings” or “ear-rings.” Well, anyways, I’ve now got some. I went to get my ears pierced on Monday night, for the first time in my life. Now you now that odd fact about me. I think I’ll enjoy getting to wear earrings sometimes now. Though right now, I have to wear these little ones for 6 weeks!

“The moment you wake up each morning…[all] your wishes and hopes for the day rush at you like wild animals. And the first job of each morning consists in shoving them all back; in listening to that other voice, taking that other point of view, letting that other, larger, stronger, quieter life come flowing in.”

The photo-log of my Halloween costume saga:

This weekend, I decided to dress up for Halloween, to go on a Trick or Eat food drive with Mcgill people. So I gathered these materials.

And turned them into this. You can click on the pictures to see larger ones. I’m going to become what I’m holding in my hand.

I tried out the sitting, it’s a little hard.

So I painted the box like this.

I even added a straw.

So then on Tuesday I wore the Juice Box to work. As I waited at the bus stop, people driving by would laugh and give me thumbs up. And all the little old ladies on the bus were cooing over my costume: “Géniale! Regarde, il y a même une paille!” I’ve never talked to so many strangers while taking public transportation in one day. Wearing a costume is a good icebreaker, I guess. Then that night, we Trick-or-Eated. Now, the Juice Box is tired and so am I.

Here’s a final few pictures with friends I randomly ran into on the street and in the metro. Yay!
